Engineering and Medical Healthcare Day Camps
(Monday, May 3, 2010)
What do you want to do when you grow up?
Experts say that 60% of high school seniors have already made that decision. The majority of these students found their path while in middle school.
Nebraska native, UNL Engineering graduate, and now New York City businessman Andy Malone is just one example. He credits Bright Lights with introducing him to his career. "Bright Lights gave me a good sense of what was in store both in engineering and in college. It definitely enhanced my interest."
Andy is just one reason Bright Lights offers comprehensive career camps designed specifically for middle school students. These camps are filled with hands-on experiences intended to spark a lifetime of possibilities in medicine, engineering, and architecture. Think lasers, robots, and scale-models.
"Controlling the robotic arm was extremely cool," said one 2009 med camp participant. "Dissecting frogs and seeing the ultrasound of our heart," were the favorite moments of another camper. In the Engineering world, one camper loved "learning about bio-engineering, the scavenger hunt and how radar guns work!"
The words of future surgeons, alternative-energy engineers? We can only hope!
Summer 2010 offers even more Bright Light Career Camp possibilities. Need-based scholarships are available.
Engineering A Better World Career Day Camp runs July 12-16 for students post 6-post 8 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Engineering school and laboratories. Out of discarded computer parts, campers will create a robot that will rule the world—or at least crawl across the floor—and conduct experiments in nano-technology and wind energy, searching for future possibilities. UNL teaching professionals join Lincoln’s finest high school science teachers to teach this camp. Click HERE for more information.
Medical Healthcare Career Day Camp runs July 12-16 for students post 6-post 8, at BryanLGH College of Health Sciences. Fun and scientific discovery go hand in hand in this camp. Campers will explore many of Lincoln’s medical facilities in town, including trauma, burn, and rehab centers. They will dissect frogs and conduct laser surgery on oranges. Led by veteran nursing professionals and teachers, this camp doesn’t miss a heartbeat of medical world possibilities. To learn more, click HERE.
