"Career" Day Camps

At Bright Lights, middle school students can "try on" a career in several different weeklong summer career camps held Monday - Friday, 9 am–4 pm. These day camps provide students with the opportunity to explore a profession and actively pursue their interest in specialized fields. By allowing students time to tinker, wonder and experiment, these camps provide opportunities typically unavailable during the school year.

Most camps are conducted "on-site" at various community locations, where students learn from experts in the field. Professionals help develop the camps and assist in the presentations. Students receive an overview of a profession and enjoy confidence-building participation.

Medical Healthcare Explorers
Post 6th - Post 8th grade

The Medical Camp has been offered since 1993 at BryanLGH East where students receive a rare glimpse into the inner life of a hospital. They explore an air ambulance, experiment with laser surgery on apples and oranges, and talk shop with the epidemic response team. Students also medicate, feed and care for Stan--the Human Patient Simulator.

Mature behavior is expected due to site restrictions. All students registering for Medical Healthcare camp will need to sign a behavior contract, along with his/her guardian's signature, and return it prior to admission.

Engineering
Post 6th - Post 8th grade

Hosted by UNL's College of Engineering, students have an opportunity to explore the six branches of engineering:  Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Biological Systems, and Computer. Students will go into the field and visit with professional engineers. This camp celebrated its 16th year in 2011.
